What does the UKCC Session Coach Award let me do?

As a UKCC Session Coach Award holder you will be able to plan, deliver and review stand-alone rowing sessions and you will be qualified to work independently, but you may be part of a larger coaching team delivering a session as part of a programme written by someone else.

Who can attend?

Anyone over 18 years of age inspired to develop their coaching skills. You must be registered as a British Rowing member. Non-members can apply online for instant registration.

Everyone attending the course must complete the two prerequisite online courses available free of charge on RowHow. See below for more details.

How is the course structured?

The course is typically 20 hours of face-to-face tutoring including the assessment. It focuses on developing three areas:

  1. Safety
  2. Session planning
  3. Skill development

The course is underpinned by coaching behaviours and communication.

The course will include both theoretical and practical learning, with a focus on delivering skills based sessions. After completing the 2 days of face-to-face learning, you are then encouraged to practise your coaching skills back at your club or centre, in preparation for the assessment on the 3rd day. Feedback by the Assessor will be provided and an agreed action plan put in place to assist you to continually develop as a coach.
