The certificates within the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme are a significant achievement. Instructors sign off each skill as you complete it and once completed your certificate can be of use in other areas of your study or activities such as PE at school, or the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

During the RYA Youth Stage 4 course you will sail a double-handed boat as crew or helm and solve a variety of problems afloat. The course includes rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats, and recovering a man overboard.

After the course you will be able to launch and return to a beach, jetty or mooring, and sail a crewed dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions. If you are interested in racing then you should consider joining our Junior Race Squad, which meets on a Saturday morning throughout the year.

Please note: two days is the minimum time required to complete the course. The actual time required depends on ability and weather conditions on the day. A certificate will only be issued if you have demonstrated the ability to complete the syllabus in appropriate weather conditions.  Our after-school and holiday clubs provide the perfect opportunity to fine-tune your skills.

Adverse Weather and Reserve Days

All Aboard Watersports reserves the right to postpone or cancel a session in the event of adverse weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control that may affect safety or the quality of instruction.

Our Youth RYA Sailing and Powerboating courses are advertised as one or two-day courses with a reserve day built in, which will routinely be the Friday of the same week, unless otherwise stated. If we need to cancel a day of the advertised course, the cancelled day will automatically be rescheduled for this reserve day.

Participants are expected to keep the reserve day free when booking a course. If a participant is unable to attend the rescheduled session, we will do our best to offer an alternative date, but this cannot be guaranteed.
