All-Aboard! started 2018 with a bang by welcoming HRH Princess Royal Ann to celebrate their 5th birthday. Princess Ann visited us ten years ago when we operated under the 3 branches: Bristol Sailability, Bristol Sailing School & West of England Schools Association (WESSA), to launch our Access Dinghy’s (aka. Hansa 303). On the 9th, Princess Ann was shown the vast development of the centre, now All-Aboard!; and meet representative of the school & disability groups we work with, in addition to low income families, individuals from deprived backgrounds or low socio-economic status areas.
Princess Ann launched our newest powerboat, “Andiamo” with was generously donated by David Bowers at the end of last year. Elmlea Junior and Warmley Park students, showed off their water skills in a Katakanu race where “Andiamo” was quickly put into use by acting as a safety boat. They all showed great team skills and sportsmanship, and were lucky enough to be awarded certificates by Princess Ann.
Many of our instructors, staff, volunteers, founders, funders, NGB representatives (National Governing Bodies) and users of the centre where introduced to HRH the Princess Royal. She was very generous with her time, taking time to talk to everyone she was presented to.
We had 4 speeches, from Blaire, Tom Clements, Anna Curvan and Luke & Fred (2 Warmley Park Students). They explained to HRH how the centre has helped them, what they have gained and why they enjoy coming. It was lovely to hear to different stories and perspectives on how they have benefited from attending All-Aboard!
Before cutting the cake and unveiling the plaque, HRH the Princess Royal noted the vast improvement and development of centre. She said that “it started off with a fairly ambitious dream” which has developed into the centre it is today “thanks to the hard work and time of many”.
All-Aboard! is thrilled to have this acknowledgement form Princess Ann and celebrate 5th years of working with a range of people. Bristol Sailability started with 3-5 regulars, today we welcome approx. 100 people who attend at least 3 times over the year.
All-Aboard! is made from the dedication and hard work from supporters, parents, teachers, volunteers, staff & instructors. Thank you to all. Here’s to another 5th years.
