All-Aboard is a fully inclusive watersports charity that welcomes everyone. Our activity centre and our entire activity programme is designed with accessibility at its core. If you have any additional needs or requirements and would like to discuss accessing any of our activities or courses, please call our admin team on 0117 929 0801 or click HERE for more information on our specific accessibility programme.

For several years now, All-Aboard has offered its sailors the opportunity to get their foot on the first rung of the instructor ladder with the Assistant Instructor Course

Introducing the professional training of the National Governing Body, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), this course allows you to learn how to deliver the range of RYA sailing courses. Participants will demonstrate a high level of skill in sailing. They will practice how to deliver a course, how to teach theory, and will also be introduced to the professional standards operated at the centre. This will be done through:

  • using their sailing skills to show others how to learn to sail
  • learning how to deliver a short presentation
  • learning how to teach a skill in sailing

They will have fun and learn these things using the group as a resource, helping each other to develop the necessary skills and techniques.

You will get an RYA Assistant Instructor certificate at the end of the course and although this certificate is centre specific, other centres will recognise the high standards you have achieved. This will also enable you to assist as a volunteer instructor on courses being run by AAW. Working with a Senior Instructor you will develop more skills and will be prepared to the standard required to progress on to the Dinghy Instructor qualification.

Candidates are selected internally and most of them come from our Race-Squad. Many of our volunteers also want to do this course as it prepares them for working with us at a high level, as well as allowing them to improve their own skills. We are delighted to welcome people of all ages to the course. All candidates must purchase a G14 Dinghy Instructor Handbook which will take them through all of the RYA Instructor courses. This course is run and supported by our volunteers and is an integral part of All-Aboard’s commitment to developing young people.
